Demo Day

A voicemail from my neighbor and friend, Heather, on Thursday morning:
"Hey, there are 4 burley men attacking your driveway with a big jack hammer thingy. Chunks of concrete everywhere. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you scheduled this demo....if not, um.....good luck with that. Okay, bye."

Old driveway and garage floor with cracks, stains, and upheaveled areas:

Newly poured everything with reinforced rebar underneath (to prevent moving/cracking as the concrete settles).
They also routed the gutter's downspout under the walkway and away from the foundation.

Now I implore you to please avert your eyes and disregard the ugly house exterior. We're slowly working on that part..........

  2. Don't you love new concrete? It looks so good! Do you love your concrete co? We need to have our steps repoured (long story) and I figured since we're neighbs, if you liked them I'd try to get their name. Lemme know!

  3. what a huge project! I didn't know about the rebar thing - that it would prevent cracking. I need that info - our driveway has more poc marks than a kid with lupus.

  8. So...losing your v-card (that made me giggle, btw) at Starbucks at the tender age of 15?? I'm pretty sure that makes you an honorary whore, lol!

  11. Awww, thanks so much everyone! I must say, it is so nice to actually do the 'fixing' part of this fixer-upper house of ours.

Em~ I responded to your q. on your blog.

Suz~ Girl, we seriously considered preserving Hiro's pawprints in our driveway forever! But he gave us the "Are you guys freaking crazy? Geez get a life" look, so that was that.

G&D~Honorary whore and proud of it! You know it =)

  14. I've just found your blog and I love it! I'm probably way behind but do you remember about how much it was to redo your driveway? We have to do this as well since the water drains pretty much into our basement. Thanks!

  15. @ jlundin: Thx SO MUCH for dropping by & for your kind words! The quotes we got for just the driveway/walkway were ~$2,000. We ended up going w/ some guys who gave us a friends & family discount & were able to do the walkway, driveway, & garage floor for $1,500.

    Hope this helps!
