Me and a hot iron

Some of you might remember my adventures with a hot glue gun. This is a tale of me and a hot iron.
I've been coveting a monogrammed table runner but my frugal side decided to make my own. On my weekly visit to HomeGoods (I need to wean myself off of this store or get a new hobby), I picked up a lovely pewter-gray dupioni silk table runner. Next, a stop at the craft store to pick up iron-on embroidered letters . Thus, my date with wine and a hot iron ensued. It was good times.

The final product. I made a few quick stitches with needle & thread on the back to make sure these little suckers stay put in the wash.
Total cost: $12.99 (runner) + $3.00 (monograms) = $15.99 (plus tax)
So easy!

Besides putting up our Christmas tree, those silver balls you see in the distance are as good as it gets for holiday decor around here. I am what you might call "seasonal decor challenged".

  2. It's so hit or miss at the Home Goods around my house. A lot of times it's so picked over.

I so wanted a table runner last year for our dining room, but I couldn't find one long enough to span the length of the table.

By the way, the P threw me off...I was so expecting "FC" he he :)

  4. ITA w/ you , M. I essentially have to stalk my HomeGoods to snap up any good stuff.

LOL, I could see myself unconsciously buying "FC" monograms.

Em~ Aww, they're so cute when they try to help. Mr. FC once laundered the kitchen towels w/ the dog towels. They were so hairy, we had to throw them out. =)

  5. Gorgeous! I love the subtleness of the monogram, it adds the perfect finishing touch. Love the color of the runner, too.

And I always forget about Home Goods. I need to check it out, especially after my luck at TJ this week!

BTW you should hopefully be receiving something from me soon for the aforementioned tree in your post, I finally made it to the PO this week.

  6. Love it!

I didn't even realize you could iron on embroidered letters. Seriously, this could be a problem as I might have to monogram everything now :)

  7. Beautiful!! Great idea and fabulous execution! It looks amazing with the holiday decor too.

We don't decorate for the holidays much either because we usually travel, and I'm not going through ALL that work for just Vinny and I to see it. Maybe when we have kids :)

  16. Oh I love this idea. I was reading a magazine this weekend that said a Southern women could never have enough monograms in her house. This is exactly how I feel I guess I'm a Southern Belle at heart.
