Blogiversary: Giveaway

Edit: This give-away is now closed. Thanks for entering!
My, time flies when you're having fun. A friend once asked: "Why do you have a blog?" I answered: "Because it organizes the chaos in my head." Does that make any sense? There's something immensely satisfying to writing a blog entry and hitting "post". Whether I get 0 comments or 50, the act of blogging is quite soothing to my spirit. And I've been lucky enough to "meet" some very wonderful, hilarious and endearing people along the way. You all just make my day like you wouldn't believe!

To celebrate my 2-year blogiversary, I'd like to do a blog giveaway to thank one of my lovely readers.
(A big thanks to Tam for this giveaway idea.)

One randomly selected reader will get to choose one of the following
(ok, hope you don't mind that these are my favorite stores =)

a $30 gift card to Anthropologie

or

a $30 gift card to Target

or

a $30 gift card to Z Gallerie

or

a $30 gift card to Urban Outfitters

Let's call this FC's version of an economic stimulus package, shall we?* Rules: Enter by leaving a comment to tell me why you started blogging (I love learning more about my readers!) or feel free to ask me any random question. Please only enter once and by Wednesday, March 25 by 5 pm MST. The winning reader will be selected using a random number generating site and I will post his/her name on Thursday, March 26.

  7. I started blogging for pretty much the same reason you did — "Because it organizes the chaos in my head" — I feel like you read my mind! I am a writer by trade and my blog is the perfect outlet for my musings. I've only been at it for a couple months, but I'm totally hooked! I especially love the blogging community I've become a part of. I love seeing comments on my own blog and leaving comments for others.

What tips do you have to generate more blog traffic and what kinds of posts do you think readers like most?

Thanks for the giveaway! Congrats on your bloggiversary!~

Q~What design style gives you the most inspiration?

I started my blog as an escape from the everyday "mommy" demands of having kids. It is a place that I can be "me" and not mommy plus meet some pretty cool people along the way with similar interests.

  22. I don't blog, but I love reading other people's blogs. It has replaced looking through home decor magazines for me and the best part is that it's free!

I considered starting a blog but I don't really think I have anything to contribute.

  23. I started blogging after a friend of mine started one. I liked the idea of friends and family getting to keep up with me and always having somewhere to address any issues I have. My mind goes 90 to nothing all day and I needed somewhere to realize these issues instead of on people all the time. :)

  26. I have wanted to start a blog forever. Everytime I think I should do it, I get stuck. What should the name be? What should I write about? I want to write abot cooking and home projects, but I always get stuck on, what should the first post be?
I feel like I'm trying to write a high school english paper and I'm stuck staring at a piece of paper and the only thing I've written is my name.
I've started a couple blog names but a few days after I register the blog I decide the name I picked was dumb (especially when I see all the witty names of the blogs I read everyday!)

Any words of advice for me?
    Thanks!

  30. I started blogging for 2 reasons. First, we just moved to the East Coast from CA and it was a way to keep friends and family updated without telling the same stories over and over. Second, just like you. Blogging soothes my soul, regardless of who, if anyone, is reading I just put out the randomness in my head and I feel so much better after I do that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I started blogging as a creative outlet. Like you, it organizes the chaos in my head...I feel better ~calmer~ once I've got it down on "paper."

  32. I started my blog out of inspiration from a friend. She had two blogs at the time and I enjoyed so much reading about her everyday happenings. She encouraged me and told me that it was very therapeutic. So at a time when there seemed to be nothing but chaos in my life I took solace in the blogging world and all its wonderful peeps!

    Happy Blogiversary!!

  33. When people ask me why I blog I told them it was like an online journal that anyone could read. I truthfully don't rememebr what promted me to blog, but boy am I glad I did. I have met wonderful people, gained inspiration, and even made to feel better to know that there are others out there that struggle with the same things I do. I love telling the stories I've read online to my friends and family. I always start off by saying "my blog-friend ....said..."

Thanks for the giveaway and happy anniversary.

    Take care,
    Lisa

  35. I love your disclaimer. You always make me laugh. I started blogging, because I always wanted to work in magazines and loved home design. I had been reading blogs for over a year and was a total lurker never knowing how to even comment and I just decided one day that I needed to be Do-er in life and started one. I love it! I love getting post ideas, doing research for it and most importantly all the fab people I get to "meet" due to it all.

    Happy Blog Anniversary!

  40. Even though I only started blogging a few months ago, I love the ability to share in so many people’s lives and get amazing ideas to beatify my new home. Blogging has enabled me to express a little of my creativity while capturing small moments of my life in print and pictures. Just like you put it, it “soothes” my spirit!

  41. Nothing like a good ol fashioned giveaway to make me come out of the woodwork. So, hi! I started blogging when I was involved in a bunch of scrapbooking forums and it was a place to display my work. It has since evolved in a mish-mash of randomosity. I like to go back and read my own archives, it's like reading notes from high school. Oh and happy blogiversary!

  42. First off, FC, your blog is fabulous! Can you have your blog like call my blog and then we can just have a blog date every weekend?

After using my creativity to pull off my Sept. 08 nuptials on a "budget," I needed some place where I could get this crazy mess of ideas out of my head. I figured starting a blog would help me organize all my thoughts and possibly inspire someone along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't have a blog - yet! But I will be starting one very soon! I live in Southern California and have JUST (as in right now - this very morning!) had an offer approved on a short sale condo! It has been a daunting process that I am doing completely on my own. I am so excited to close escrow and start fixing up my first place. Its super tiny, and I will be on a complete budget. I would like to document this time in my life - being a mid-20something, professional girl trying to make a (fancy) place in this world!

My question for you: When you started your Freckles Chick blog, did you know you would acquire so many followers, or was it initially only a space for yourself and family/friends which just so happened to be absolutely fabulous?

  44. First of all, I would never consider myself a writer at all. I started blogging as a way of getting the word out on our fused glass business and showing some of the fused glass projects we were working on and quilts that I was working on. I started a list of potential titles hoping that eventually I would think of some words to go along with them. Then I became an obsessed reader of blogs. I find them inspiring, uplifting--especially on a stressful day because there are lots of really good and interesting writers out there--including you for sure! Now it's just kind of a fun thing to do. I don't know that it will increase traffic to our business, but that is no longer my primary focus anymore. And I've "met" the coolest people.

  45. I haven't started blogging just yet but I am seriously considering it. I am so in awe and inspired by your blog and so many others. You mentioned that all the stores are your favorite but if you could only shop one place, which would you choose?

I used to have yet another blog on Blogger (mybleublog.blogspot.com) but I found it difficult to keep up with both. My blogger blog was much more about me and I miss having that outlet -- Facebook isn't the same!

LOVE your choices of prizes -- all favorites of mine as well!

  66. That's me deleting my previous comment cause I can't read directions.

As I was saying, count me in! Happy Blogiversary.

I started my blog because I was living in Germany and it was a way to keep in touch with my family and share the random weird things I discovered about living in Europe (like they can't stand Reese peanut butter cups!) It's evolved from there...now it's mostly just trivial BS running through my head.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I started blogging to keep track chronologically of everything that happens in our families lives. It helps me look back and remember events and it reminds me how even the smallest things are important.

Thanks for all the inspiration and ideas, and congrats on your blogiversary!

  71. I'm an over-sharer. So. blogging is perfect. I can "talk" as much as I want and no one complains. People ask me how I come up with things to write about, the truth is my brain works at hyper-speed and writing down a few of the ideas helps me stay on track. Sounds like you and I have similar inner-brain-workings.

Congrats on two years! I'm thrilled you started blogging - you have been an inspiration to at least one reader. =)

  74. FC! Happy 2 years! I am so excited you started blogging because I love your blog and you! I truly value our internet friendship {in the most non creepy way--ha!} and hope someday we can meet up in real life. You are a dear and a hoot! And I look forward to FC blog action daily!

I started blogging because I wanted to post my decor loves, DIY projects, and family photos! I would have never imagined meeting so many fine people through this medium.

Most of my IRL friends just don't understand, and that's ok too! : )

Sorry for the novel...who knew I'd get so sentimental!

  77. If someone asked me the same question, I'd have the same response! Mine is like my giant virtual filing cabinet full of links, tutorials, photos, ideas, my own creations, etc. Probably not surprising that I have about a bazillion binders full of similar things in tangible format... at least the blog is (hopefully!) better organized. Also, the sense of community and friendship out there between bloggers is outstanding, and I love being a part of that.

Side note: when did you change your photo on the side over there?? It's adorable!

  78. Hi FC

I started blogging because I thought it would be a good way to keep track of all the cute/silly/crazy things my boys say and do.

Now, I use it as a place to share projects and meet other ladies that are as passionate about home decor as I am.

  83. Congrats on the blogiversary!

I started blogging just a little over 5 months ago, because I was starting to annoy my boyfriend with my constant fashion talk. With my blog, I am able to go on and on about what dress I found on Forever21 that I love and what Erin Wasson is wearing today, and people who are actually interested in that information are able to read about it and respond! It's much more productive that trying to get my boyfriend interested in the latest headbands Blair Waldorf has been spotted wearing on Gossip Girl... and I've met a lot of other really awesome bloggers along the way!

  86. I started blogging because the pressure in my head was building, and I knew that, if I didn't let some of the hot air out (at a somewhat controlled pace), there would be an explosion. And, if there was an explosion, there would be a mess. AND, if there was a mess, someone would have to clean it up. ANNNNND, if it was my head that exploded - I would not be able to clean the mess up. SOOOOO, that would leave my husband to clean it up....need I say more?

  88. I started blogging because for months I couldn't figure out why I hadn't. I know that doesn't make sense, but in grad school I was obsessed with political blogs. Post-graduate studies I had some time to kill and blogging perfectly filled that void. Now, my blog is a great way to keep in touch with my family even though I hardly ever see them.
Thanks for having such a fantastic giveaway.

  89. Hi FC-long time reader, first (or perhaps second?) time commentator (sorry-blog shy!). I started blogging because...ever since I was little, I talked to myself. Like, I pretended to write a novel in my head kind of talking. Weird kid, I nkow. I guess I read too many Judy Blume books or something when I was a kid! So, I've always had an ongoing dialogue in my head, and haven't really had an outlet for it....until the world of blogging came along. I've been a fan of fave blogs for a few years now, and figured it was time to "give back" to the blogging community with my own random streams of dialogue. So...105 posts later...here I am!

  108. Oh I love this blog! And the pretty stores that you picked!! I started blogging for an easy way for me to share my photos.. it has since evolved into a much bigger piece of my life-- filled with tons + tons of inspiration.

  109. I just recently started blogging and did so because I am obsessed with so many others blogs (such as yours) and I find so many beautiful photos I thought it would be a good way to get them all in one place. I haven't gotten very far yet on my blog but I'm trying!

  110. I started blogging to share my thoughts. At first it was just for me...but I have slowly made comments on other blogs so that they can, in turn, read my blog. Few friends know about it, though.

  111. I started blogging just to vent my spleen about things that were bothering me without burdening my friends with my rants. It evolved into a life of its own and somehow I picked up 36 people who actually follow my blog now. WOW. It's also a great place to "bookmark" things I find on the internet that I want to buy someday or use to decorate eventually.
