5 years

Dear Mr. FC,

Happy 5 years to my other half. I could get all mushy and lovey-dovey right about now but since when have we been that sort of couple? Don't we always joke that we're more like best friends with benefits? Did I just up my blog to a PG-13 rating? Awesome.

If we could travel back in time to the day we met in college 10 yrs ago, what would we say to our younger selves? I'd say "Get ready. We'll be bonding over sushi, beers, and Dumb & Dumber on VHS. It's like the Fates want us to be together."

We've never been the traditional couple, from our first date {that Phi Delt kegger/Jungle Juice party was so klassy} to our 2nd year together {when we endured over a year of a long distance relationship, separated by 1,800 miles} to our long engagement {3 yrs! People forgot and had assumed we were already married.....when they received the invite, some were suspicious that we were trying to get a 2nd wedding gift out of them} to our days just enjoying a quiet life with our dog.

Most couples are fortunate enough to never have spent time apart so early on, or ever. For us, it only strengthened our bond. The greatest gift you've given me is a different perspective on the world. You've said that the greatest gift I've given you is my independent "what you see is what you get" nature and the freedom to be who you want to be. Does that mean I'm low-maintenance? Double awesome.

(Uh-oh, sappy mushiness ahead.) I hope we have many more years of laughing till we go into silent laughter mode, because that's when you know it's good. Many more hours of talking in bed, followed by more laughing before sleep captures us for the night. Many more decades of respecting and inspiring each other. I hope every year continues to feel like the best year of our lives.

I know you rarely read this blog, though you often are the butt of many of my jokes (thanks and sorry), but I just wanted to reiterate the romantical sentiment you whispered to me after we took our wedding vows: "You're pretty much stuck with me." Right back at you, love.

Yours,
Me

Yeeesh, get a room already.

Happy Friday, dear readers!
