Ornate frame's fate

You know you need to get out more when you stare at a computer for 11 hrs/day....only to come home and stare at it some more.
After weeks and weeks of scouring my local Craigs List to find a frame to turn into one of these, I finally found this darling. I fell for her. Absolutely smitten. And now she's mine ($35). ' Scuse the muddy doggy pawprints in the foreground.

{ And for those of you who've mentioned you can't see my PhotoBucket pics, here you go! }

Now dear friends, could you help me out? Should I:
1.
Leave it as is (it's a soft goldleafy texture, not brassy at all)?
2. Paint it white?
3. Paint it the same color as the wall (for a modern tone-on-tone look
a la Mrs. L's gorgeous piece)?
4. Paint it a bold color?

It's destined for the dining room wall where there is a black farmhouse table, greyish latte colored walls, and a mix of black chairs & new tufted linen ones I just found (soon to be blogged about).

Thanks for your feedback!
Sometimes this head of mine is crammed full of too many random thoughts to make any rational decisions.
Yay for Bloggers.

  1. I love those! They are adorable! I really like the white look...

  2. Wow, it's awesome! I say leave it "as is" for now, because at least then when you put the chalkboard in the middle, you can move it around and see if it works. Then I may then be inclined to paint it, if the gold isn't working in a room setting.

  3. I love it! I say either paint it white or a bold color.

  4. I'm torn between leaving it as is, or going for that tone on tone look. That is fab.

Hey girl, just wanted to let you know I mentioned you in my blog.. head on over and check it out!

  10. i say white! You can hardly ever go wrong with white! If you don't like it, you can always paint over it.. you have a base coat! lol

  11. I love it as is. it's quite lovely.

But, honestly - everything you do looks divine and magazine-worthy. I trust your judgement. Which I guess I should since it's YOUR HOUSE. =)

  12. Ooh it's gorgeous! I think white or black would look awesome. Maybe even a bold color. I'm not so sure about the same as the wall color thing though because it's so gorgeous and I would want it to stand out. I think it'll look great no matter what you do with it, though. :) Great find!

  13. Gosh girl, I am not sure which way you should go. The frame is just gorgeous! Can't wait to see what you decide!

  14. White...or bold. And to think I have gotten rid of ornate gold frames because they "weren't my style." Now I want them back so I can paint one, put a chalkboard in, and hang one in my dining room. What was I thinking??

  15. Oops forgot to ask, What size is it?

  16. I think I might be alone in this opinion, but I'm kinda diggin' the tone-on-tone look...

  17. My vote would be to leave it for now, see how it works. Then try white. And if you still don't love it, go bold. It's a trial and error process, but if you paint it immediately instead of seeing how it works in your home you may regret it.

  18. Purty! I think I like the way it looks as is. But it would also look really nice done black. Paint the chalkboard part first and then see if you like it. If it doesn't work you can go back and paint the frame.

  23. Purple. I'm seeing purple. With polka dots.

    Hee hee just kidding.

HOW ARE THINGS UP NORTH WHERE YOU ARE, LADY?! I love that frame and the idea, I actually want to turn an old gilded frame into a message board with cork for my "style board". Someday, when I'm not lazy.

That being said...I love the gold, but I think white would look better in the dining room. Right? Do I win?

  24. I say leave it as is! It's a gorgeous color! Fantastic find, FC! Ahhh, can't wait for the reveal!

  25. It looks awesome! I think I'd let the room dictate the color. Since your dining room seems more calming, I'd go for tone-on-tone. In a kitchen or family room, I'd go for contrast.

  26. I would either do bold or white

  27. ooo i'm so torn! all of your choices sound radical. if it was me, i would paint it white. but since you're not me, and i want you to take a chance (so I can see how it turns out!) i say paint it something BOLD. like, chartreuse or super bright yellow! whee!

  28. Love it as is. Will look great with black chalkboard inside.

  29. This is great! I love it! Its pretty as it is, but it sounds like it may look style-y painted black in the dining room.
Your blog is great and I just became a follower!

  30. What a great find! I say white or bold...or the wall color. I'm no help, I hope everyone else gave you good advice because I obvi suck at it :)

  31. I say leave it as it is for now and then after you have it as a chalkboard see how it works. If not then I'd go white! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mine is similiar to that, I painted it a glossy white. I love it.

    Good Luck!

  33. While I love all things white, I really like the way it is. Great find : )

  34. I would say paint it a bold. Are you making it a chalkboard? If so, you could leave the gold and paint the chalkboard a bold color. Hudson paint has lots of chalkboard paint colors to chose from. Can't wait to see what you decide.

  35. Paint it black. - Beth

  36. Any photos of the spot you are putting it in?

I like the look of gold against gray but if the wall is more beige, then I'd say go white or some other color.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I vote White!! Or a white that has a more greyish, cream tone.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Same color as the linen chairs. This might tie it all together. You're adding a blackboard, right? A dark color wouldn't show off the frame...good luck!

  39. I'm with Blondie! Would look great in a whitish colour. Have a sweet day!

  40. I vote for painting it. I had picked one up at Michael's that was shockingly gold. Check out the after here. http://www.bootsandtotty.com/category/bathroom-makeover/
