Color phobia & a chair makeover

So, you might want to skip over my Cher chair makeover below if you:
1) crave color
2) are sick of nailhead trim & think my house is where nailheads went to die, because I used them here and here

I can't commit to color. I'm petrified of picking patterns. I'd like to think my, uh, colorful personality is enough for any room. I second guess myself and grow tired of the color/pattern I chose before I even leave the store. The whole process is daunting to me.

So of course this fabric reached out and pulled me into its comfort-zone embrace. Our safe word was "neutral".
My technique left a bit to be desired but the process can be summed up in these pics:

So sad. My drapes are too short, but they're only temporary. Photobucket

I LOVE this silver tray table from Target ($40). Thanks for the tip, Suzie!

The truth? I'm not in LOVE with the fabric, but I'm really happy with it for now. There's bigger fish to fry, and I'm too lazy to change it up any time in the near future. :::That's Mr. FC snorting in disbelief in the background:::
And for anyone who's severely disappointed that I decided against a bold color, there's always that 2nd chair I have yet to tackle. Meanwhile, here you go:Photobucket

Who am I kidding. This is what it'll look like most of the time.
Told you. Apparently, even my bras are afraid of color. Photobucket

budget breakdown:
chair: Craigs List ($44 each; that's a bargain for my town)
paint: Rustoleum High Performance Enamel spray paint, Gloss Black ($5)
fabric:
Dwell Studio for R. Allen, Cameo Ovals ($9 during fabric sale + coupon)
silver nailheads: fabric store ($3)

  3. $9 for that fabric is worth it enough to stay put for awhile. I'm a fan. And seriously...put away that scarf, it's blinding me.

  4. The chair looks great! I really love how sleek and chic the black looks paired next to that gorgeous table. The owl and the flowers add the perfect touch. It's absolutely perfect.

  7. Ummmm, I LOOOOOVE it. The fabric is phenomenal FC, so when you're done with it, pass it on to me. I'll find a use. I love that it IS a pattern, just not a super obv one (That's the sorority girl coming out in me, shortenting words).

And your bra? Hot. There, I said it.

  8. I ADORE that fabric. I too am a color-phobe. I think the chair looks perfect...wouldn't change a thing about it.

  9. So pretty and I love that table. Would be perfect in my bedroom.

Maybe a gallery wall? Any singe huge piece of artwork might dwarf the chair and small table.

  11. I have to tell you--as soon as I saw that fabric, I fell in love! I LOVE the fabric...even if you don't. :) The chair is stunning!

  12. Whatever! Who needs color when the black and white looks so amazing? I love what you chose.

ps - the accent chair in our bedroom not only houses bras, but the man's grungy adidas pants, numerous fleeces, and a huge blanket because my cats tear the chair apart with their claws if I don't cover it.

  15. It is lovely! I know what you mean about being afraid of color! I've owned my home for 7 years and only started painted 4-years ago. My homes prior never had color on the walls! Builder white, ugh! I'm trying too ! I adore the fabric as well!

  18. I actually think black is a bold color choice. It's better then everything being white- which I am so over.

  24. It looks great girl. And I am totally digging the fabric choice.

We have a chair in our bedroom too and it's most of the time a catch all for clothes, too.

  28. You are so flippin' cool. I love the fabric. And, I would definitely agree that boring is far from what this is.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hmmm... I really wanted to leave a terrific comment, but it seems like 30 other people have already done that. LOL!

So I'll simply say... Lovely job on the chair. I especially like the texture in the fabric, as it punches up the visual impact and so totally works with the neutral color scheme. Simple and Elegant, with interesting texture. Nice!

  30. They look like totally different chairs- I love the fabric you picked out too- what a great find!

  33. Everyone deserves a little neutral color time every now and then. They chair is gorgeous. That wall would look gorgeous with a huge canvas of a quote or your wedding vows. Bra looks good too!

  34. Killer! I'm so glad you didn't use bold color...and I don't think you're a color phobe either! This is fabulous and it looks so "high end", classic and sophisticated. LOVE it. This way you can play with color with throws, pillows, bras, panties, lol. I think it's elegant yet makes a dramatic statement at the same time. I hope you don't change it any time soon - I love your sense of style! Thanks for sharing!!

  35. OK...so I should probably just email you but darn it...I want my name up there on your list. You know what list....:)

So....after thinking it over, I just believe we can be creepy together. I ALWAYS..ALWAYS look forward to your comments. I feel like I am in jr high waiting for the note to be passed back to me and it has only been 20 seconds yet I demand a full page note...and oh crap....the teacher is looking...don't pass it now. :)

You are definitely the cool girl and I am just thrilled I can sit at your table. :)

    Cheers~

  40. I quite like the fabric, actually. I'm also terrified of color and prints, and am so glad to read that I'm not the only one! I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one with capri-length curtains. :) Your little side table is great, too.

  41. I, too, am a lover of color but cannot pick color and/or patterns for the same reasons. I love how the chair turned out BUT I love you for posting a picture of your bra! Hilarious! You're the best!
