The sofa (aka the Beast)

Our new sofa's quite the beast at 101 inches in length (I'll refrain from "That's what she said jokes" this time, promise); it just doesn't feel that long thanks to it's clean lines and low profile. We need a sofa this size for both of us to spread out and for entertaining purposes. We.love.it! My photos certainly do not do it justice.

First the pics, then the review.
How do you feel about "dormant" orchids with no blooms because I've totally got one.
Also, the raspberry pillow is a placeholder until I find the perfect pillow.

W/out the pop of color.

The Pottery Barn
Palace pillows are actually outdoor pillows, but they're quite soft enough to use indoors. Available online only (free shipping) and in real life the background is actually a cream color rather than stark white.

I found this lamp at Home Goods a couple months ago & love the antique brass finish (reminds me of
this pricier one). It will probably end up in another room down the road but for now it's also a placeholder until I find a more suitable lamp.

Sofa: Room & Board, André (fabric is Dawn Cement) ~We tried out practically every sofa in the Denver area but kept coming back to this one. Because we chose a "custom" fabric/color/size, we had to wait 8 wks to receive it. Painful but worth every penny. Our in-store consultant Heather was exceptional with her knowledge and very honest. She even followed up with us personally after the delivery. If you're in the Denver Cherry Creek area, I highly recommend her. Customer service and the delivery dudes were helpful and prompt for the most part (though they did have to push back our delivery date by a week).

I swear this sofa's extremely comfy even though it might not look it. I even slept on it one night and my decrepit back approved wholeheartedly the next morning. (Let's pretend you don't need to know why I slept on it.) We've clocked over a month's worth of sitting/lounging/napping on this thing, plus entertaining a group of 24 friends, and we adore this sofa. The style also jives well with
our mid century mod credenza. If you'd like to see the so-called evolution of this space, please click here and here.

Meanwhile, I'm in the process of trying to pretty up the deck around here.
Whether I succeed or fail, more on that next week...........
Thanks for dropping by!!

  8. Ohhh...I when I go to Chicago, I ALWAYS take an afternoon to Room and Board. Love the sofa. Your home is so lush. It is like a movie set. I am awaiting to see Angelina come walking into the room. You drip with style. Ugh...you make me sick. :) Hahaha! Love you my dear.

The 8 weeks of wait were SOOOO worth it.

    Cheers~

  12. I love the sofa (and pillows)! And I think I've told you before, but I love those chairs. Love, love, love all of it.

But -- and don't hit me -- I almost wish there was sort of a larger kind of coffee table thing. I know it's not a ginormous space, but I just want to put a Noguchi table or something a bit wider (and low) there. No?

Oh, I would also like to steal your coral for my house.

    That is all.

  13. Oh my word! You all are too kind! Thank you for making this girl's day!

@ liz @ bon temps: Sure thing! The storage ottomans are from Target (purchased over a year ago) but they might still carry them? Hope that helps!

@ megandvd: Hey BFF! =] You crack me up. Oh! The chairs were a thrift store find from 6 yrs ago!

@ Kelly: I hear ya on the coffee table! I would LOVE one but the space if just too cramped for one plus w/ an 80 lb dog whose tail is the ultimate party foul, we've realized that a coffee table is not in the cards right now. Still dreaming though.....

  14. I'm imagining a longish, solid-colored bolster pillow on the couch. Maybe in yellow?

  15. Lovely, chic, gorgeous!!! It's perfect for the room, and your decor is beautiful.

I know what you mean about the 'that's what she said.' I'm programmed to think (and unfortunately say!) it everything the situation arises. (that's what she said)

    I can't help myself!

  16. A dormant orchid with no blooms is better than the completely dead and petrified orchid that has been living in my bathroom for the last three months because I have been too lazy to grab a new one at Home Depot the 6 kajillion times I've been there!
I think the "placeholder" lamp looks phenomenal in the space!
If I lived in Denver, I would steal your chairs. Loves!

  17. Love the couch and the whole room for that matter.

Curious what people think about the dormant orchid as well. I have one and Im not sure its coming back. (How can you tell?)

I find the rasberry pillow to be distracting from the nicer stuff in the room. I like how you added the pink but either it has to be added in another element or taken out. At least thats my take on it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ MrsL: The raspberry pillow's just a placeholder right now until I find something more appropriate. So it's not a keeper yet (and since my whims change like the wind....) It's just a pillow I had laying about!

It's only been a month since my orchid went dormant so I've been watering accordingly & feeding it orchid food/bloom booster food. *crssing fingers* I'll let you know if it works!

  19. I'm 99.9% sure you need to cut the orchid's stem off at the base to encourage it to bloom again. They send out a new shoot for new blooms. You may also want to fertilize it with specialized orchid "bloom" fertilizer.

I LOVE the color of your couch!

Perhaps Hiro is waiting for you to leave him alone with it so he can test it out. :)

  24. call me crazy, but I like the raspberry pillow better then the others you had chosen! How fun is it against all your neutrals (which mix oh-so-well) and the pillows you have now.

    Keep it, I say!

  25. Oh my gosh that sofa is amaziiiiiing!! Although, those legs make me nervous...does it feel sturdy?

Love the fabric you chose ~ just what I would pick!

P.S. aww Carlisle is so sweet! Though every time I see him, I can't help but think of his obnoxious {yet hilarious} role in "Can't Hardly Wait" :)

Except I always rub it in her face that we have a Room & Board within easy driving distance here in Denver; she always has to order hers from Shminneapolis (four hours away from where she lives!).

  41. The place where we get ultimate comfort is sofa. We could even make sofa experience that bit more relaxing by adding a matching footstool. If we need a sofa which can cope with a numerous of people sitting on it or have a room which is an awkward and difficult shape, then look for corner sofas.

    Nice to share....

  49. Love this sofa! Thinking of getting it in Briar Taupe. A 76" will have to do as we live in an apt. and anything longer would just be wrong. I've sat on it in store and fell in love with its' firmness yet comfort. A great conversational piece with such great style. Those chairs sure were a lucky find for you.....wonderful!
