Quinn's playroom wall 2.0

Back in May 2013 I shared Quinn's basement play "room" here (full source list is at the end of that post).  It's served her well so not much has changed with it.  I recently remixed the wall above the IKEA Expedit unit, using frames, prints, & materials we already had on hand.  It's got a bit more "Quinn" shining through now.
I've become that parent who frames her kid's artwork.
That shiz is precious.
A month ago, my craft closet cleaning session was halted when I unearthed some sequined ribbon.
I manipulated that sequined ribbon into "love" with a bit of craft glue.
Pipe cleaners, you're next.
The striped rugby bins have been in use for a year & they're awesome!
The small size fits perfectly in those Expedit cubbies.
So does Quinn ;-)

Quinn's art table's still going strong.  This thing has been well-loved & transported from room to room.
A lot of people assume she sits here for hours at a time, quietly doing artistical (word?) things.
Well, no.  She's a wild toddler.  A wild toddler is like a blender with the lid off (thanks, Jerry Seinfeld).
Still, she uses this table for SO many things if only for minutes at a time.  Coloring, play doughing, snack eating, finger painting.....not with paints but with the green smoothie in a kid-proof cup I just gave her that somehow isn't Quinn-proof.
A place to hang her wings after those long days of fairy princess work (removable 3M hooks).
I wear those wings myself when she lets me.
It's about to get magical up in here.

  1. I am fairly certain that the way toddlers reward us for all those sleepless infant nights is by generously giving us heaping piles of "abstract" art. At least that's what I have planned for Katherine. I plan on framing and displaying approximately 4 million wild crayon pictures some day soon. :)
LOVE the "love" sequins and the fairy wings. Shiny fluffy things are THE BEST. Thank God I had a girl... ;)

    1. Right? It's about time these rugrats start giving back.

Seriously, thank God we have girls. I wouldn't put it past me to deck out a boy with gold loafers or something though....;-)

  3. You did such a lovely job with this space! Not only does it look fabulous, but it seems to be functional - so important with a kiddo! Do you mind me asking where you got that pretty framed butterfly? I searched your site, but the old Etsy link you had for it isn't working. Thanks for any info!

    1. Thanks so much, Rachel! It's a space that works hard for us, love it!

Sorry about the link, I should've checked that first! Here's the direct link to the art print from Sarah Jane Studios (it's the version without the butterfly net which probably sends a friendlier message haha!):

Off to fix the link, thanks for the heads up!

    2. Hi! Thanks so much for responding so quickly! My apologies - I was actually referring to the taxidermy butterfly in the glass frame, not the illustrated print of the girl with the butterflies and net. Sorry for any confusion! Any info on the blue butterfly in glass? Thanks! :)

    3. Oops, sorry about that!! I need to read better ;) It looks like the etsy seller I purchased the framed buterfly from no longer operates a shop. I originally found him by searching "framed morpho butterfly":
      http://www.etsy.com/search?q=framed%20morpho&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US

I specifically looked for ones that mentioned they were humanely harvested :) I recall paying ~$30 for it.
      Hope this helps!

    4. taxidermy butterfly, humanely harvested... hehehe, this conversation is too funny ;) It does look pretty fab, though.

    6. (And glad to hear about the humane harvesting thing - I didn't know that was an option, but it makes me feel much better!!!)

    7. @rachel: My pleasure! I know, me too gal. Me too :)

@christine, just bella: Haha! Humanely harvested sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it?! I don't want to come off totally heartless ;-)

  4. I'm with Rachel, it totally looks fabulous and functional!! I love the idea of the hooks on the side of the expedit, it so much easier for them to clean up if they actually see where things go. Thank god for cute bins too! Love her cute little space :)

  6. Super cute! I just finished my kids' playroom this weekend and totally used their art for wall art - cheap and cute. I really love how you mixed Quinn's art with other things too! Now reward yourself by putting on some fairy wings.

  7. Haha! I love your Quinn updates. I swear everyone else makes it sound like their kid is a perfect angel and I love you for "keeping it real." And I'm sure your pipe cleaners would be thrilled with whatever makeover you gave them.

  9. Hi! Do you mind telling me where you got the thin black frames in the gallery wall?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The thin black frames were from Michael's ~4 yrs ago but I've seen them in store recently. They're lightweight & the glass just pops right out when you push on it. Safe for hanging but easy for changing out art! I think I got them during one of their crazy frame sales. :)

  13. I originally read that as "not with pants" which in our household and with our wild little blender would not be that unusual ;) Quinn's space looks fun. Wish we could come over to play!

      Thank you kindly, friend!

  15. My home is full of art done by my boys (ages 2 and 4) and I wouldn't have it any other way!!! They (all kids, not just mine) are the best artists!!! We have a mix of original pieces and prints from "real" artists and then the work of my little ones and often guests can't tell the difference.

    Love Quinn's art!!!

    1. I think that's so awesome that your boys are so artistic!! Kids are totally the best artists. So uninhibited, just creating their little hearts out. My parents never encouraged my creative tendencies & that makes me a bit sad. So when Quinn wants to make a mess with art, I'm all for it!!!

Thanks for the kind words, friend!! Hope all's well!
